MOM 2005 Task: Clean up MOM agent temporary files

The
purpose of this article is to demonstrate how to create a custom task in
MOM.  The task I wanted to create would
execute from the MOM console against a agent.
This task will stop a MOM agent, delete the temporary files, and then
start the MOM agent.

How is this different from running the "Update Agent Settings" from the Admin Console? Asside from the obvious (anybody can run it) I was under the impression that Update Agent Settings would do the same thing… Trust me, I\’ve been wrong and confused on more than one occasion :-)Thanks!-Jess

Not too certain what update agent settings does, other then apply changes you may have made to that particular agent and then have it look for new processing rules. I don\’t think when you update agent settings it deletes all the data in that folder.

    Hello

When i try to run the cleanmom task from the operator console i get an error message "The specified application is not on the path"

When i copy the psexec.exe and the cleanmom.bat file to the computers winnt\\system32 dir and define "c:\\temp\\psexec.exe \\\\$Computer Name$ -c c:\\winnt\\system32\\cleanmom.bat"  in the Task command line it works.

My question is there a way to get this script to work without copy the files to computers i wish to run it on?

For this task to work you should be able to install the app on your MOM server and run it just fine.  That\’s how I did it.  Copying it to all the computers would defeat the purpose.  Ensure you check the location of the exe.  PSExec.exe is used to run things remotely from one machine to another.  Could there be a permissions issue?  Maybe.
